Introduction to the Institute of Advanced Navigation Technology
Key Lab of Micro-inertial Instrument and Advanced Navigation Technology of Ministry of Education (Class B)

The Institute of Advanced Navigation Technology (IANT) at Southeast University (SEU) is subjected to Key Lab of Micro-inertial Instrument and Advanced Navigation Technology of Ministry of Education (Class B), which is founded in 1960 as Gyro Instrument and Driving Major. The institute belongs to the second-level disciplines of “Precision Instrument and Machinery” and “Navigation, Guidance and Control”, among which “Precision Instrument and Machinery” is the key discipline of Jiangsu Province and the cultivation point of national key discipline of Jiangsu Province, and “Navigation, Guidance and Control” was selected into the national defense characteristic discipline of the state administration of science, technology and industry of national defense in 2017. The director of the institute is Professor Xiaosu Xu. There are now 10 scientific research personnel, including 5 professors, 2 associate professors and 3 lecturers in the institute. Furthermore, the faculty of the institute includes 1 awardee of State Council Special Allowance Experts, 1 awardee of Education Ministry’s New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Plan, 2 awardees of the Cultivation Objects of the "333" project in Jiangsu Province, 2 awardees of the Cultivation Objects of the “Qinglan Project” of Jiangsu Province, and 2 awardees of “Six Peak Talents” of Jiangsu Province.
Since its foundation in 1960, the institute has put forward the development idea of “oriented to national defense”, adhering to the research direction of national defense science and technology for a long time, taking nation national defense demand as the leading force, and forming the discipline characteristic of serving national defense. Recently, the institute has undertaken the national defense 973 project, the general assembly pre-research project, the national defense model equipment project, and the national natural science foundation of China, etc. In recent years, the institute of Advanced navigation technology has shown bright professional characteristics, formed the research direction of strapdown inertial navigation, satellite navigation and integrated navigation, made a number of achievements with independent intellectual property rights, a mount of research achievements have reached the international advanced level and many achievements of the institute of advanced navigation technology have been transformed into engineering products. Especially in the development of national defense model products, the institute has been taking a leading position in domestic universities, and many types of equipment have been transferred into the production stage to form combat effectiveness. The invention achievements of the institute have been awarded the first prize of science and technology progress of the ministry of education in 2013, the second prize of technology invention of the ministry of education in 2017, the 2017 Chinese patent excellence award, the 43rd Geneva invention bronze award. In recent ten years, the institute has published more than 300 academic papers, among which more than 90 have been included by SCI, and more than 100 invention patents have been authorized. In terms of personal training, the institute of advanced navigation technology of southeast university has always attached great importance to the cultivation of students’ innovation rigorous and realistic abilities and qualities, trained a large number of graduate students in national defense and military planning, which has provided a large number of high-level and high-quality talents for the national defense research and management departments, and graduates can be found in scientific research institutes, enterprises and administrative departments of aerospace, aviation, navigation, surveying and map, etc.
