Course Description:

This course is one of the specialized basic courses for students majoring in measuring, control and instrumentation. The focus of the course is on fundamental working principles for various kinds of novel sensors as well as their real-world application examples. The goal of this course is to help students understand new sensor technologies, properly choose right sensors and efficiently develop new sensory systems in their research.

The tasks of this course include:

  • teach students basic knowledge of sensors, such as the working principles, the classifications, the properties, the performance indexes, specification requirements, and the treads of future development;

  • make students understand new sensor technologies and new applications;

  • make students master the methods how to choose appropriate sensors under certain conditions;  

  • through real examples of sensor application, let students acquire basic training in implementation of experiments and research with proper sensors and sensor technologies;  

  • through the final project, enable students connect the knowledge of this course with the real engineering and research practices.

Requirements for ability cultivation

  1. analytical abilitycompare the pros and cons of different sensor, at the same time, culture the ability to select computation scheme diagram with respect to the actual structure.

  2. project design abilitythrough the study of this course, students are required to properly select schemes, calculate errors and adjust circuit designs according to different parameter and measurement requirements.

  3. self-study abilitythrough the study of this course, culture and improve the student abilities to organize, summarize, and digest learned knowledge, and the abilities to self-expand knowledge areas based on the course contents in class, reference books and materials.

  4. representation abilitythrough the final project, students are required to express, clearly and neatly, the thoughts and procedures of problem solutions.

  5. innovation abilityculture the student habits to think independently and study problems in depth, and culture the student abilities to raise multiple solutions for one problem and draw inferences from one instance.
